VERN’s lecturers engaged in a global project to plan smart solutions for the elderly population

VERN’s lecturers have joined a global network of experts from American, British, Portuguese, Romanian and other numerous European universities and institutions.

Hrvoje Belani, M.Sc., and Igor Ljubi, M.Sc., are engaged as researchers in the international project "Interdisciplinary Network on Smart Healthy Age-friendly Environments" which is part of a new COST action aimed at cooperation between academic and business communities. Building a scientific research network of associates, devising smart solutions that will make life easier for the elderly.

HEP ODS Implementing Smart Grid Pilot Project Worth HRK 176.83 m

At its introductory conference of 7 October, HEP-Operator distribucijskog sustava d.o.o. (HEP ODS) presented Smart Grid Pilot Project, which was co-financed from EU funds. The total value of the project amounts to HRK 176.83 m, HRK 149.95 m, i.e. 85% of which are secured from the European Regional Development Fund, granted under the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014 – 2020, i.e. Specific Objective 4d1.

200th ELEN Electric Car Charger Put into Operation in Split

HEP's network of ELEN car chargers covers the area of ​​all 20 counties and the City of Zagreb, as well as all motorways and other important road routes across Croatia, city centres and tourist destinations, including several islands. At HEP's electric car charger stations, more than 400 electric cars can be charged at the same time, ie half of all of the registered electric cars in Croatia.

Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing introduces three international graduate study programmes starting with 2021-2022 academic year

Alongside the well-established Croatian high school graduates' interest in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing study programmes, there is a considerable number of foreign students who wish to continue their education at that faculty. For that reason, and as part of the International University Graduate Study Programmes in Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER-IN) project, three new graduate study programmes in English were developed, already scheduled to enrol the first generation of students in the 2012-20 academic year.

Ericsson powers Vodafone UK Standalone 5G network at Coventry University

Ericsson technology is powering Vodafone UK’s just-launched Standalone 5G network at Coventry University, the first live Standalone 5G network in the UK.

The Standalone 5G network will be used to trial virtual reality learning to support training for student nurses and allied health professionals.

Students of Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb (FER) show a growing interest in mobility
The interest of FER students in student mobility within the Erasmus+ program has been continuously growing every year.

The results of the Erasmus+ Competition for students - study visit for the academic year 2020/2021 for program countries (KA103) demonstrate that FER has been recording a significant increase in outgoing student mobility for several years in a row. As many as 103 outgoing mobilities were approved, which is an increase of almost 20 percent compared to the previous year, and an increase of almost 70 percent compared to the academic year 2018/2019. It is interesting to add that FER is in third place at the level of the University of Zagreb in terms of the number of approved KA103 mobilities for this year. When it comes to countries that are of greatest interest to our students, Spain, Austria, Poland, Germany and Sweden proved to be the most popular.

Ericsson Mobility Report: COVID-19 impact shows networks’ crucial role in society
  • 190 million 5G subscriptions forecast by end of 2020; 2.8 billion by the end of 2025
  • Digital infrastructure critical to meeting communication needs in times of crisis
  • Fixed wireless access (FWA) connections forecast to reach close to 160 million, and account for 25 percent of global mobile network data traffic by end of 2025

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) expects the global number of 5G subscriptions to top 190 million by the end of 2020 and 2.8 billion by the end of 2025. These forecasts are included in the June 2020 edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report, along with projections for data traffic growth, and regional subscriptions.

The report also takes an incisive look at the role of networks and digital infrastructure in keeping societies running, and families connected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Transformation of one of the longest-running Croatian IT companies

By the strategic decision of the owner and founder of InfoDom Slavko Vidović, members of the Management Board of InfoDom Zagreb became three long-term experts and employees who participated in all important projects and their development. Hrvoje Sagrak was appointed as President of the Management Board, and Ivan Barbarić and Goran Marković were appointed as members of the Management Board. The new Management continues the development of InfoDom Zagreb, while Mr. Vidović takes over the coordination and management of the operations of the InfoDom Group, which unites 14 companies and has 110 employees.

Internal transformation has further strengthened the InfoDom Group, and the new Management Board of InfoDom Zagreb will continue to focus more on the market and create value for its customers, in order to rapidly contribute to the digital transformation of the public sector and economy.

BT and Ericsson join up to deliver cloud native dual-mode 5G Core

Ericsson and British Telecommunication PLC (BT) have signed a deal to deploy Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core (Evolved Packet Core and 5G Core), a fully container-based, cloud native Mobile Packet Core for 4G, 5G Non-standalone and 5G Standalone services as a single fully integrated core.

The solution, delivered on BT’s Network Cloud, will form a key component in BT’s move to a single converged IP network. It will incorporate network orchestration and automation, including continuous delivery and integration processes (CI/CD), and be integrated into BT’s existing customer experience management platforms using Ericsson Expert Analytics together with Ericsson’s built-in software probes.

Igor Vukasović – New corporate communications director of Hrvatski Telekom

Igor Vukasović took over the position of the Director of the Corporate Communications Department of Hrvatski Telekom on April 1. He will be responsible for the internal and external communication of the leading telecommunications company in Croatia.
He has taken on a new position from the position of the manager of Corporate Communications at Addiko Bank, where he has been managing corporate communications over the past nine years. During his career, he served as the Corporate Communications Director of the Addiko Group and handled the communications aspect of the Group's privatization and rebranding.
