How can artificial intelligence be turned into a measurable and profitable business outcome?

Economic AI and HPC Forum (STEP-AI)

Artificial (Anorganic) Intelligence (AI) is no longer a question of the future – it is already transforming the way companies operate, make decisions, and gain competitive advantage. The key question is no longer whether to use AI, but how to implement it effectively, scalably, and profitably.

Pradeeban Kathiravelu - invited lecture at SSE

Pradeeban Kathiravelu, an assistant professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), USA, will give an invited lecture at the SSE. He is currently a visiting researcher at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula within the project Human-Centered System Design for Equitable and Sustainable Digital Societies (EQUISYS).

The circumpolar north, which includes Arctic regions such as Alaska, Canada, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, and Sweden, faces major challenges due to extreme climate conditions, remoteness, and historically limited internet access, although LEO satellite networks like Starlink are improving connectivity. These developments open new possibilities for distributed computing, especially in critical areas such as telehealth, where remote communities can access medical care despite distance and high network latency. They also support climate research, particularly the monitoring and prediction of Arctic sea ice extent and coastal erosion, which is essential for planning adaptation and relocation strategies in the face of climate change.

Round table: Autonomous vehicles in the EU: The technology is ready — is the regulatory and safety framework?

As part of the 49. International MIPRO 2026 Convention in Opatija, as part of Formal Opening, a round table will bring together leading experts from industry, academia, and regulatory bodies to discuss one of the most pressing questions in contemporary mobility: how close are autonomous vehicles to widespread deployment — and what is still missing on the legal, safety, and infrastructure fronts?

The discussion will cover key technological and regulatory challenges — from AI system validation and safety architecture, through communication infrastructure (V2X, 5G/6G), to liability for autonomous vehicle accidents and compliance with the EU regulatory framework: the AI Act, the new Product Liability Directive, and national traffic legislation.

Davor Runje - invited lecturer at the AIS conference

Davor Runje is the Vice President for Agentic Systems at Synthpop AI, a U.S.-based software company specializing in healthcare process automation, and he will deliver an invited lecture on the topic of communicating AI-based agentic systems as part of the AIS conference.

AI agents are increasingly pervasive. While they are built on large language models, they often appear more capable than anysingle model alone. We argue that a primary reason for this effect is effective inter-agent communication.
