Round table: Autonomous vehicles in the EU: The technology is ready — is the regulatory and safety framework?

As part of the 49. International MIPRO 2026 Convention in Opatija, as part of Formal Opening, a round table will bring together leading experts from industry, academia, and regulatory bodies to discuss one of the most pressing questions in contemporary mobility: how close are autonomous vehicles to widespread deployment — and what is still missing on the legal, safety, and infrastructure fronts?

The discussion will cover key technological and regulatory challenges — from AI system validation and safety architecture, through communication infrastructure (V2X, 5G/6G), to liability for autonomous vehicle accidents and compliance with the EU regulatory framework: the AI Act, the new Product Liability Directive, and national traffic legislation.

Panelisti

Vjekoslav Majetić — innovator, founder and owner of DOK-ING, Zagreb

Lovro Nobilo — Verne (formerly Project 3 Mobility / P3M), Government & Regulatory Affairs Manager

Academician Ivan Petrović, PhD — Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER), Zagreb

Damir KljajićManager for Emerging Technologies at Ericsson Nikola Tesla

safety architecture of autonomous vehicles — sensor fusion and redundancy

validation and verification of machine learning-based systems

V2X communication and cooperative perception in urban mobility

liability for accidents involving autonomous vehicles — who is responsible?

EU and Croatian regulatory framework: AI Act, Product Liability Directive, homologation

PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME
